In the summer of 2005, we planted half an acre of lavender. The following spring, encouraged by the survival rate of our test block trial, we added more plants and completed a one acre field. Since then, we have added over a dozen of different lavender cultivars and each summer we add more!
With a perfect combination of hot dry summers and winters moderated by the proximity of Lake Ontario our Prince Edward County Lavender plants are thriving. This summer we will have 2.5 acres planted with a variety of cultivars of Lavandula Angustifolia (English lavender) and cultivars of Lavandula X Intermedia (hybrids L.Ang./L.Latifolia), commonly called Lavandin. Each year we keep adding plants to our fields. As the lavender plant takes three years to mature each visit to our farm will give you a different view and appreciation of our beautiful purple fields.
Two years ago, we expanded, growing a variety of herbs such as spearmint, chamomille, calendula, lemon balm . All the herbs included in our Herbes de Provence, our herbal teas and other herb mixes are grown on our farm. Look for our Fines Herbes mix offered this summer!
Join us for a short tour of the fields. Each visitor will have the opportunity to learn about the different varieties of lavender we are growing. You will enjoy a short history of lavender, detailing the myriad of uses this wonderful flower has experienced throughout the ages. Ask all the questions you have ever dreamed of about lavender. This summer we will have designated tour times of 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm. The cost is
$3.00 per person and it will last
approximately 30 minutes.
